handcrafted wooden spectacles.
The story of Hilarius is a tale of one young, developing designer and his unbridled love for the craft.
Łukasz Maziarz is a graduate of the Industrial Forms Department at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts. He is passionate about wood and the endless ways it can be used. Confronting his shortsightedness, he decided to make some glasses and share them with the rest of the world. He resolved to step away from the established canon of wooden frames and to choose elegance, strength and well balanced proportions. Valuing individuality in his projects, he developed his own production technique, in which created the first functional glasses prototype for Hilarius in October 2014.
„Subconsciously, I have aimed to be a carpenter since I was a child. Why not? After all, nothing gave me such as sense of pride, fulfillment and satisfaction as making SOMETHING with my own hands. Now, as a big boy, I can say with a smile on my face and satisfaction that my childhood passions are still inside me today.
Hilarius is my return to my roots, a tribute to the carpentry traditions I grew up with that date back many years.”
We specialise in designing and handcrafting exclusive wooden spectacles. The frames are created using our own original method for shaping wood. Inspired by the flexible structure of classic archery bows, this method combines and balances delicate, exquisite proportions with the exceptional strength of bent wood.
We believe that glasses are small works of art which have an extraordinary ability to change our appearance. This is why we place the greatest importance on even the smallest details from the very first sketch. We are proud of the fact that our frames are a fresh, original take on wooden glasses, and every pair harmoniously combines contemporary design with the timeless elegance of wood.
